Multi-variate statistical methods. According to Mr. Naseem, “The
researcher must be critical in their approach towards choosing
population sample size in order to derive meaningful research.” At
the end of each session, participants including Dr. Fatehuddin
Khand, Dr. Hanif Lakho, Dr. Haji Khan Khoharo, Dr. Sajjad Kazi,
Dr. Hussain Bux Kolachi, Dr. Suhail Ahmed Bijarani, Dr. Nudrat

Khand and Dr. Maria Dhahri discussed the issues facing them in
their PhD and MPhil program thesis and dissertation with the
facilitators online. Dr. Schehar Bano facilitated the final session on
'Inferential Statistics of the day for publishing research in Impact
Factor Journals'. She provided participants with tips and insider
knowledge for maximizing the chances of getting published in
high quality journals and encouraged participants to go beyond
publishing, towards book review and editorial roles.
Second day of the workshop facilitated by Mr. Muhammad Akram
provided a hands-on training for using SPSS software and work
exercises. During the session, randomly selected participants were
asked to perform the tasks online. Between the sessions, a foreign
speaker Prof. Muralikrishna discussed on Data Sampling
Techniques – Meaning and Different Types of Techniques. In his
discussion, he also answered several questions pertaining to
established sampling methods mentioned in the literature. Given
the hands-on nature of the workshop the participants particularly
enjoyed the second day.
At the end of the workshop, Dr. Kabir
Dherwani, Chief Organizer
of the workshop and Dr. Din Muhammad Shaikh, Organizer for the
Basic Medical Science, thanked RCTD on behalf of Isra
University acknowledging the meaningfulness of the workshop.
Also, they humbly acknowledged the efforts of Mr. Danish Vassan
and Mr. Akbar Memon from the IT department, Mr. Razaullah, Mr.
Moinuddin and Mr. Amjad Shah from Multimedia department, and
Mr. Hassan Chandio from the VC Secretariat for their efforts
towards running the session smoothly.
The Medical education and Physiology department of Isra
university in collaboration with Research Center for Training and
Development (RCTD) organized a two-day workshop on
“Program for capacity building in Inferential Statistics and
Inferential Analysis” from 18 to 19 July 2014 at Isra University,
Hyderabad via high definition (HD) video-conferencing, marking-
off their first ever collaboration.
RCTD renders a wide range of training and development services
to postgraduate researchers particularly assisting them in planning,
conducting and publishing high quality research. The joint
workshop was organized for capacity building of postgraduate
students in basic medical, clinical and dental science in inferential
statistics, majority of who are engaged in their M Phil and PhD
thesis work. The aim of the workshop was to educate participants
on the conditions for using inferential statistics, analysis,
interpretation of the data and publishing the results using
Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS™).
On the first day, the workshop divided into three two-hour sessions
focused on the discussion of key concepts and methods of
inferential statistics required for conducting research as a
requirement for thesis/paper writing or research project. The first
two sessions conducted by Mr Muhammad Akram Naseem
focused on understanding the role inferential statistics can
accomplish to help participants interpret the data and draw
conclusion, population sampling including techniques, errors and
sampling mean, testing hypothesis testing, avoiding type I and II
errors, concept of p value, and significance of using Bi-variate and
